Keihen Smoothbore?
07 Jul 2006 12:44
I am looking at getting a set of Keihen smoothbore carbs for my '78 KZ650.
Anyone have any experience with these?
Here is a link to the old bike barn where I plan on getting them from:

Thanks,
Josh

I did read through that. Doesn't mention the Keihen carbs.
or were suggesting I dive into a setup like that one?

I was suggesting that EFI is cheaper and better and it can be done by just about anyone
I hate carbs, I'd much rather just plug in a Palm or a notebook and adjust the fuel flow

Well tell me more. I hate carbs too! I don't know much about EFI.
How much, where, what equipment is needed? Is it really cheaper?? Better no doubt!

Links are at the bottom.
MegaSquirt EFI controller kit is ~$140.00, ~$250 if you buy one assembled.
GPz1100 or GPz750 throttle bodies are a bolt on and can be had for around $50.00
Fuel pump and sensors can be scrounged from automotive junkyards for ~$25
Wideband sensor and controller is available for $200.00 and makes tuning easier, but is not absolutely required.
Need a Palm for tuning and datalogging $25-$35 on eBay. Although some people have carried a laptop either in a backpack or strapped on the seat behind them.
For info on MegaSquirt start HERE
I bought mine from DIY Autotune
The MegaSquirt-1 is all you need, but the new MicroSquirt made just for Motorcyles will be released soon at ~$300-$350
To rich for my blood though.
