I wanted some carb holders. I sent a e-mail but bought some from another seller. 10 minutes later I got a invoice from him. I saved 1/3 the price from the other seller but now I wish I had waited, The material he uses is supposed to be better and the holders are thicker.

I've seen this before where the rubber diaphragms were soaked in fuel or carb cleaner then when the PO tried to install them they were out of shape and wouldn't lay down right. If it he had waited an hour they would have returned to normal size when the carb cleaner/fuel evaporated and the rubber relaxed.
Just about anything you use to clean the goo up will cause your diaphragms to distort. It's worth a try in my mind. Acetone or Lacquer will probably remove the goo and probably won't distort or melt the rubber too bad that it won't dry and return to normal size in a hour or two.
Of course the best bet would be to replace them but if on a budget try to fix them first..ONLY after you have a source for the new ones.

Don't fix it until it's broken.

Well, here's the plan. I have read all the responses and I have priced and sourced new rubbers if I need them, (Thanks Swest). But first I will inspect then for holes. I did not see any initially, but I will do a good inspection in the light. The rubbers do not seem to be distorted. maybe the PO had them distorted from cleaning and thought they would stay that way. If all is well with the originals I will install them after cleaning. If not , I will buy the new ones. This is my second set of carbs that I have torn down and cleaned and rebuilt myself. I am on the way to becoming a CV carb expert. lol I keep all the parts for each carb in separate Tupperware containers, and everything works out. I didn't have any extra parts left over, so I guess it was a good day. Thanks guys.
