I am cleaning and rebuilding a set of BS 34 carbs to use on my 82 GPZ 750. The carbs are from a KZ1000J model. The rebuild kit I have is made for the GPZ 750. the kit has the 37.5 pilot jets. it also comes with 110 and 115 main jets. I know the stock size for the GPZ 750 is 110. What would be the effect of using the 115 jets. will it help the lean starting condition of the 750 or will it make it worse? If it will have a negative effect, I can go with the 110s. Is there another way to deal with the lean issue besides changing the main jet. Should I be looking at the pilot jet or some adjustment to the pilot jet? BTW, I do have my original 750 carbs. they are running quite rough. That is why I will chance cleaning and rebuilding the 1000 carbs to 750 specs. I don't have to experiment with the originals. I am looking for all of the insight and help I can get on this subject.

I can't help much with the jetting except saying that the main jet doesn't help much at low throttle, so my guess would be that you need a bigger pilot jet (if adjusting it isn't enough):

Here is a guide to the carbs should you need it (PDF file) :)

A lot depends on what else you have done to the bike and where you ride it. My gpz750 is happiest with #42 pilots and 130 mains but I have an opened up airbox, K&N and a kerker 4 into 1.
A lean condition at start may be due to the enrichment circuit not working correctly. The only way to fix that is to trace the entire circuit and clean, clean, clean.
