HELP! carb help for 79 kz 1000 was created by Kzhollen
I let my kaw sit for about 5 months, it had been winterized, but now it won't hardly start. It will when choked but bogs down once choke is removed. Will run every once in a while but when given any throttel it bogs down. I've pretty much decided it carbs, but wanted a second opinion. I tore them down and deep cleaned them, jets and all, but to no avail.

9 times out of 10 it is the carbs. I have never successfully cleaned any neglected carb by soaking and spraying carb cleaner.
Only three things really work and you must do all three.

1. Understand how the different circuits really work with respect to throttle position.
2. You must use very small diameter wires to force crud, caked into the small diameter of ports, fuel passageways, orifices and jets ... OUT.
3. Carb cleaner in a spray can to wash all this junk out after the wire treatment.

If it only runs on choke then your carbs need to be cleaned. Did you store it with gas in the carbs?

I've done these but maybe just not quite good enough. And baldy no I didn't, but my bike was found in a garage and was thrown in with the scrap by the original owner. It could have been sitting with fuel in it for 20 years. Thank you both for the help so far

I went through the one fouled carb and sure enough, the jet was plugged. Oops. I also realized I had my plug wires wrong......now it runs on all four. Oops again. Runs great now, even picked up my girl from work
