Got it Running!-Still has some issues though...

Ok, so I got carb kits for my 1981 KZ750 LTD I've been trying to get going. I have the stock airbox, with a kerker 4-1 exhaust. All vacuum connections are good and nothing is leaking.
Cleaned the carbs thoroughly, all the jets and passage ways were blown out with air and the jets are all clean and o-rings/gaskets are all new. I bench synced them and set the pilot screws at 2 1/12 turns out. Using starter fluid we got it popping over but it just wouldn't stay lit. Figured it was too rich, I turned the screws in 1/2 a turn, so they should only be out 2 turns now.
After some effort, we got it started! It seemed to start ok, and I took it out for a little test ride. On the ride I noticed a few things. it does not accelerate above 4500 rpm, it bogs stumbles and will not budge above 4500. Then it died on me after half a mile. I got it started again, but it wouldn't stay running without the choke on.
So now I suspect its too lean. After I got it back, I pulled a plug and yes they were white. I checked the float heights when I had the carbs apart, best as I could, have not done the clear tube test though. Anybody have any clues for my symptoms? About the 4500, I'm wondering if I need to go up in main jet size or adjust my needle somehow (they are the stock needles so no adjustment really). Thanks for the help!

Do the clear tube test before fiddling with the jets. Ed
