Hello all,
Fishing around my carbs to make some fines adjustments. VM22s. I cannot find an air screw, it looks like vents, not a screw. Any help appreciated. R

Im familiar with vm28 air screws. I suppose it's possible you are looking in the right spot and the screws have been removed? Or possible that vm22's have fuel screws instead of air screws? Got any pics?

VM22 carbs do not have air screws, so you won't find them. VM22 carbs have pilot screws. The pilot screws are on the bottom of the carbs near the carb holders.
If you plan to adjust your carbs I would urge you to buy a Kawasaki Service Manual so you can do it properly; otherwise there's a very high risk of making things worse rather than better. Be sure to get the manual that covers the KZ650-B2A; KZ650-D1A. Ed

My guess based on what you said is that you have a clymer manual or something like it which covers a few different yrs / models? One of a few reasons a factory manual is nice is because it is specific to one bike. I had a heck of a time separating details of my bike when I was using my Clymer. But sometimes the factory manual isnt available ....just my two cents...

You never know what had been changed over the years either even if you do have the correct manual. In 1977 I believe they were 24mm carbs with the pilot screws, then in 1978 some came with pilot screws, some with air screws. Some even had both. Late 78 with the B2A they went from the 24mm to 22mm carbs from what I understand, but I could be mistaken. They look identical to me. I guess they can be measured somehow, but I never bother, just run what is on the bike and hope for the best.

Actually, some of the 1977 VM24SS carbs had air screws (mine do). None of the 1977 KZ650's originally came with 22 mm carbs. Those were put on the 1978 B2A and 1978 D1A. So assuming his bike really has 22mm carbs and that it really is a 1977 model someone pulled a switcharoo. Just for reference, the Mikuni VM22 carbs have the orifice at the 10:00 position shown below; the VM24 carbs do not have it. Ed
