Hey guys-
Is it possible to change my stock keihin carbs out on my 1983 KZ750F for mikuni carbs? I know some models that year had mikunis. Thanks!

Looks like the RS34 D21 K will fit.

You may be able to find a rack of old BS series carbs that will work. Why do you want to change them?

I know people with earlier 750 like mine have used mikuni bs34s from GPZ 750s without any problems. Yours is the shaft drive right ? Cylinder/ carb spacing would be the same.as mine or the GPZ model.

Petcock placement might be the only possible problem i could think of and only if tank design is significantly different from E, H or GPZ models.

elr658 over at the kawaskimotorcycle.org site put VM24 carburetors on his 750-4 Ltd.
I'm pretty sure they were a direct bolt-on w matching VM carb holders (probably from a KZ650).
You almost have to go with pod filters. Or jerry-rig the stock airbox ducts to fit the VMs.

Thanks guys- that's all great information. I'm new to this scene. As far as why I want to change the carbs... I guess I'm not opposed to keeping the Keihins, but I was talking with the mechanic I've worked with for 15 years or so, and he is a huge hater of these Keihins carbs. I wish I knew more, but I have come to trust him with this stuff.

Please someone point me in the right direction for more information on this?! haha

Thanks again all

I don't know anything about the Keihins. The BS32 carburetors from the 82-83 KZ650-CSR are probably a direct bolt-on. Those models have the same carb holders & airbox ducts and the CSR has a 750-4 airbox. The cylinder head port spacing is the same.

ZR750 (air-cooled models). The carbs from a 90s 750 Zephyr or ~2000-02 ZX-7/ZX-7S might fit.

I actually like my Keihins :cheer:
as long as they are clean inside, balanced and no holes in diaphragms they work great

Z1 Enterprises sells all the various O-rings and whatnot you need to perform a full rebuild of the stock Keihins. I went through mine last year and they turned out nicely. The one pain in the rump is the choke shafts and butterfly's; you need to get the butterfly screws and choke shafts out in order to fully separate the carbs. One nice thing about these carbs is they have three stage jetting, or at least some of the models do. Assuming your bike is stock the easiest thing to do is rebuild the stock carbs. If you bike is modded with pods and a header you are going to have to rejet, so in that case going to different carbs won't be a traumatic because you will have to rejet anyway.

You can use ZR750 carbs, they are Keihins CV32... but a newer model.
There is a post on Kz650.info by a 650Spirit about this conversion. You must buy new ZR750 carb holders, airboots and re-cut holes for them in the airbox.
I think it is easier to keep and restore your current set.

To use the ZR750 carbs on a 750-4 he may not have to do the extra work that 650Spirit did --- the 70s 650 has different stuff from the 750-4's.
