I have an 81 kz 440 with Pods and mufflers cut off. At low rpms its very very blubbery but as soon as you get to mid throttle it runs great. I shimmed the needle to move it up a bit. The fuel air screws are out about 4 1/2 turns. Should i get bigger pilot jets? Was thinking the mains were good because it runs so well from mid to top. Tryin to get some advice so i can stop taking the carbs apart…help me!

Do a search on KZ440 jetting.
1) cut off exhaust just makes noise, there is NO performance advantage.
Just the opposite happens, they reduce it.
2) the filters you are using could be all wrong, do they block the air bleeds?

i ended up getting it by doing some tinkering. Went up a few sizes on the main and a little bit on the Pilot and it runs great.

Hey mat I have a 440 too and I was wondering if you could tell me where the fuel mixture screw is? It's probably really obvious but for some reason I can't find it. Thanks

Richard mine are on the top of the carbs toward the front of the bike so you have to have a really small flathead to fit under the tank to adjust them. I also know some of them have a little plug covering them and you have to drill through it to get to them.

I got micro drill bits and drilled them out just a little bit.

That's what I'm doing to find that "sweet spot". If you make a mistake you can solder them and start over. Best to have a spare set to play with.

thanks for the info. I was hoping you had found a source. I won't risk drilling though.

It would be nice to try a bigger size pilot but if I screwed up drilling then dead in the water. I can live with what I have

Keihin pilots for the CV34 just don't seem to be available. Darn!
