No, it just has carbs and a air box which I'm replacing with pods soon. The only time is pops now is after a pull and decelerating quickly. But I'm not too worried because there are a few holes in the exhaust.

Slightly enriching the pilot circuits, say 1/8 turn, sometimes reduces or eliminates popping through the exhaust on deceleration.

See that your planning on pods ...... how about a header ..... you will probably need to re jet for the pods ..... for sure with them and a header .....I'd say a 17.5 pilot, clips up a notch and 110 to 112.5 mains for both ..... pods only maybe the same ? No experiace there....Opening up my air screws a quarter turn helped my set up a lot so I agree with Patton on playing with the air screws a little.
Fair amount of folks will want you to keep the air box and I won't argue with them ... pods give you very little power and sometimes head aches but I've always preferred em.
When Swest asked about the air injector he was talking about the set up on the valve cover 78 models don't have it ...79 models do. Its A Emissions thing

You may have answered your own question. Fresh air being sucked into exhaust could cause burning of unspent fuel, popping.

Yeah after the pods I will be getting 4-1 vince and hanes exhaust system. Only reason I'm doing the pods first is because the boots that go to the air box are rock hard and they are a pain to deal with. I read my fair share of post arguing for both sides but I just want them for the look and a cleaner look. not really going for more power with pods. Only part I'm stuck on is with the clips, I'm unsure of how to change the clip position.

Those are easier to tune with pods and 4/1 exhaust.

If you try and do that it will lead to much frustration because things like tight valves will show symptoms of a carb problem when in reality it's a valve clearance issue.

Also bear in mind sometimes what you think is a fuelling problem might be ignition related , or even both at the same time as I had on mine recently. ( a pinhole in the carb diapragm, plus HT plug leads resistance too high and a lose timing plate)
, I'd clean up/replace the coil terminals, HT leads and plug caps to reduce the likelihood of it being an ignition misfire.
