Ok, dumb question time. Using the 28mm carbs, bike has always been rich, Dyna S ignition and coils. With the bowls off, slides ran all the way down, idle backed off, should you be able to blow air through main jet ?

Excessive richness may be caused by either (for whatever reason) -- or any combination of -- insufficient combustion, weak spark, and/or too rich fuel mixture.
Not surprising that air could be blown through the main jet with jet needle fully down inside the needle jet, because the fit between needle and jet isn't an air-tight fit.
Good Fortune!

Motor is a MTC 1015, Andrews 2X cams, head ported, cams degreed @108. Currently has 17.5 pilots and 107.5 mains, needle on second notch from the top, should be lean as hell. I'm going to check float height next....(clear tube test)
