Stock air/fuel mixture turns kz550 was created by daren1093251
I know this is a very hard question to ask, but I just need a pointed in the right decision. I got a 1984 kz550 and when i got it the carbs were already apart, so i just out theair/fuel screw 1.5 turns out to start. The bike runs idle, roughly. If somebody knows approx. how many turns out for it to run a bit better for now. Thanks

If you ain't first ; You're last

loudhvx our resident 550 expert and electrical guru has a ton of 550 information in his signature. Do a search here for any posts he has made and check his signature for the 550 stuff
Here is one link from his signature on 550 carbs and which may help answer your question - scroll down to see the table

Unfortunately, my carb site won't help with his bike. He uses TK26 CV carbs. I only have info on the TK22 slide carbs.

The manuals linked in my signature might help a little, but I don't have factory manuals for the shaft drive 550's. The third party manual might have some info, and he may get some help from the manual which covers the 82-83 KZ550H gpz models, as they used a variant of the TK26 CV carbs.

Get it running at full temperature, then slowly adjust the mixture to where it idles best/fastest, then set the idle speed.

If the mixture screws don't do anything (common on old bikes) start looking for the vacuum leak / clog.

Have a KZ day !

My wife asked me if I still loved her - I said "Honey, I love you more than new carburetor boots ! "

As long as the screws do affect the idle, the preferred method is the lean-drop method. That's where you lean it out until the idle speed drops, then turn the screws back to just barely recover the RPMs.
