I'm not to sure if this has been asked before but here it goes. I have a 1979 KZ1000 that i just picked up i am doing a cafe build out of it b.c someone already started it but thats besides the point. the person i got it from said that it was running decent with the air box on it but i would like to put pods for more of a cafe look to it. it has an after market exhaust with very little restrictions on it what would be the recommended jets and set up to get me in the ball park?

To 650ed's reply, let me add "which 1979 KZ1000 model do you have?" There are five (KZ1000A, KZ1000B, KZ1000C, and KZ1000D, and KZ1000E) and all are initially jetted differently. You will eventually read that most older Kawasaki's run the best with original carburation and airboxes...they are correct.

You can get it to run really good with pods and jetting it just takes time and patience. What carbs are already on it should be Mikuni VM26.

If you're not scared of a little work, as in experiment and try, adjust and try...and repeat till you get want you want, go for the pods. If you expect to bolt them on and be good stay with the airbox.

There are many post on this site to give you a starting point on jet sizing and the such from people not afraid of a little work,Around here we call them Racers
Also I wouldn't put much stock in articles that are 30 or so years old that some people will reference as a reason not to use pods

When you do the search be sure to use "any date" in the search options (see image below). Ed
