Well I measured carb floats they were about a 11/2 inch mark what should they be at on a 1980kz 750 4 cause now that have them set here bike won't stay running

Setting the floats dry doesn't always result in the correct fuel level in the carburetors.
The service fuel level check is a more accurate measurement, since it will show the actual fuel level.
From the 750-4 pdf --- see diagram & table on page 156:
Service fuel level Standard = 4.0 +/- 1 mm below the bottom edge of the carb body (1980 models).
The measurement is different for some of the later 750s (e.g., 1982 = 3.0 +/- 1.0 mm).
