1982 kz440 carb troubles

I purchased an '82 kz440 ltd recently and am having trouble getting it running. The guy I bought it from modded it with new air filter and chopped the exhaust. I've been told I need to re-jet the carbs, but I'm completely clueless how to do it. If anyone is in the Northern VA area and can help me out that'd be great, or if you can walk me through it step by step that'd be awesome too.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationI am in the same boat...with a 1982 440 ltd, pods, shorties on exhaust, engine stumbles at low rpm. I have replaced the secondary main jet (under the needle) with a #102 and put two washers under the needle. It runs fine now except for low rpm. I am currently working on what to do with the pilot jet (the one under the plug). There is also the primary main to consider (the jet next to the secondary main, engine side) but I haven't messed with that yet. You probably need to first clean the carbs, remove them, take them apart, remember what goes where and then soak them in pine sol for 24 hours, rinse with water and blow out with air. That cleaned mine like new. Then get this kit from here and they will help with any questions. If you don't want to do all this, try putting a thick pair of dirty socks over the pods and see what happens...I hear that is the final solution!
