float adjustment
31 Jul 2014 08:20
Hi all, well I find I need to adjust the float height on one of my carbs. My questions are 1) how have you done this with the carbs still on? 2) any rule of thumb for how much bend it takes to get a few mm? I'm a bit nervous about it as I don't want to mess things up. Thanks, Keith

Search "clear tube method" it is the ONLY way to set float heights accurately. It can be done on the bike usually, and a teeny tiny amount of bend on the tang makes for a pretty good difference in fuel level. When you are satisfied with the fuel height, ty-wrap your clear tube to the Carb, and let it sit for 10 or 20 minutes, just to be sure no fuel is bleeding through.
If you find my "kz900 semi restoration" thread, I detailed the process somewhere in the middle. It is critical that you her the floats dialed in, as it affects all other aspects of jetting.
Cheers

Thanks for the assist. That will be very helpful indeed. Just what the doctor ordered. I used the clear tube method and found the level a little high that's why I asked. Great forum for us amateurs.
