77 kz650 advise
24 Jun 2014 11:16 - 24 Jun 2014 12:05
I recently got this bike, it has a bunch of electrical issues which I have gotten under control. Now I'm dealing with carb issues I think. The bike starts and idles with just under 1/2 choke, will throttle up in neutral, but put it in gear and it stalls without about 4krpm. The bike came without an air box it put pods on, it has a 102 main and a 50 primary. I'm guessing it needs rejetting, I have very little experience with carbs any help would be appreciated, I do not want want to purchase a stock air box unless it is cheap so if anyone has one let me know. The carbs have been cleaned and I have no vacuum leaks, I haven't checked points/timing or valves, what is the correct order to check things out? Forgot to mention 4 into 1 exhaust.

The carbs should be VM24's and if so what is this #50 primary jet?
The carbs are still dirty, If you have VM 24's take the carbs back off and clean them thoroughly, pay attention to the small passagesways in the carb bodies. Make sure they are all clean and clear. With a 4 into 1 pipe swap in a set of 17.5 pilot jets, go up to 105 for the main jets and raise the needles one position. That should get you close..

On the needles is it 1-5 bottom to top or 1-5 top to bottom? Right now they are set 2 from the bottom.

So I should go to 5. Thanks 650ed
I see the air screw adjustment is 2 +\- 1/4 turn, would that stay the same, logic says it would be less....
