HELP ! K&N filters on z1000st 1980

Hi there!

I just bought a 1980 z1000 st, and I changed the air filter box with 4 K&N filters. But now it want run right on low rmp's only on full throttle, does anybody know what the problem can be? I adjusted the mixture screw 3rmps out. Please help.

The problem is that you replaced the airbox with individual filters. There is no "mixture"screw that will make the bike run well. You need to either put the airbox back on the bike or start learning how to rejet the carbs. Do a search using the word PODS on this site; you'll see thousands of postings on the subject. Ed

A Dynojet kit will make the rejetting task easier. They don't list an exact match for an ST, but I suspect the regular KZ1000 kit will work fine. Just be careful to get the type for CV carbs, not VM's.

Edit: made a mistake, it should be VM and NOT CV (got it backwards). :silly:

are you sure a 1980shaft has cv carbs?
my 1980z1r has slide carbs not cv's.

kz1000 shaft has vm28's...

My bad on the CV's. Sorry. Dynojet kit is the stuff though.
