Carb and running question from a new guy
21 Jun 2014 04:52
Hello all!
I am new to bikes so go easy
I recently picked up the bike in my sig. From my research, it appears as if I have Mikuni VM24's on the 750 motor, which seem a bit small (especially considering the exhaust and pods). The bike seems to run well, and pulls hard to 9,000 rpm. The bike had a small misfire between 7-9k before I put the correct plugs in it (the PO had NGK B6ES rather than the correct B8ES plugs). The old plugs looked okay. After new plugs, the bike cruises nicely, but still has a 1/2 misfire if that makes sense (e.g. It does not pop out the carbs or exhaust, but you can hear a kind of very small misfire at cruising throttle, but when you get on it, the bike pulls smoothly). The exhaust also crackles a lot on decel, which I am assuming is normal considering my exhaust set up.
I am wondering if the bike would wake up if I sourced the correct carbs for the motor, or if there is any advantage to keeping the existing carbs. It just seems like it's running better than it should be with the small carbs on the 750!
Thanks for any advice

Some close up pictures of the carbs would help.

I think they are VM24SS with pilot screws. Did you install the 750 motor or did the previous owner? Ed
