Fuel injected KZ440? was created by Spencer440
Anyone wanna give me some input on this? I found this kit www.ecotrons.com/products/400cc_to_800cc..._fuel_injection_kit/

I was thinking about converting it to a fuel injected bike. Anyone think this would be worth it for power output gains/ reliability?

I believe you would need to make many modifications to your bike to make it work (if indeed it could be made to work). Notice in the list of contents it states "ECU controlled ignition system (via CDI)" The 1980 KZ440 uses points, not CDI, so that would need to be bought elsewhere, installed, and made to work. It also states "For 2-cylinder engines, like V-twin, or parallel twins, more modifications are required, in many cases, a new manifold or new throttle body set will be required." So you would incur additional costs there as well. The base kit costs $700, so I could see you easily spending over $1000 just to give it a chance to work, and there's no guarantee that it would because of the mods needed. I'd say for that much money you would not get good value in terms of performance or reliability. Carbs are already very reliable as long as they are kept clean and have any damaged pieces replaced, and I doubt the FI system would add any appreciable HP to an otherwise stock engine. If you're havin problems with your carbs you could send them out for service or replace them for less $$. Ed

Imo not worth $699 (plus further expenses for whatever air intake and filtration may also be necessary), because the properly maintained stock carb-air-box system likely performs equally as well and is reliable.

A stock air-box, if needed, and even a replacement stock carb, would likely be far less expensive, and likely to help resolve any existing tuning issues with the stock system.

Are there any issues with the existing components that have prompted the inquiry?

If the bike at hand is performing "as-new," it's imo likely that the after-market fuel injection system won't offer any significant increase in performance.

Good Fortune! :)

EDIT: Thanks, Ed! :cheer: You beat me to it.

No there is nothing wrong with the bike, currently it runs like a dream! It is all stock besides some clubman bars and the stock exhaust is rusted out a little. Only thing I really need to do to get in perfect condition is get a stock exhaust back on it and it should be good to go.

The Ninja 250 kit might be adaptable.
I looked at the system but decided to try something a little different.
This is one of my projects that is currently on hold.
