Stock airbox and mac4into1, what jetting?
27 May 2014 20:56
Okay the bike is an 81 650 with vm24ss carbs. Currently I have 17.5 pilots and 102.5 mains. I'm not convinced this is the right combo. I am no tuning expert, but it is a little doggy. What would be a good combo? Thanks

It idles well, but there's a definite hesitation when I twist to full or near full throttle. It stumbles stumbles, then catches up and really goes.

Have you tried the stock 15 pilot jet? Ed

Fresh clean air filter?
Spark plug reading?
Fuel levels per clear tube tests?
Jet needle clip in stock position?
Timing advancer lubed and functional?
Good Fortune!

28 May 2014 11:59What he said. I'd start with the timing advancer, but the rest of these things need checked as well.Patton wrote:ShouterVW wrote: It idles well, but there's a definite hesitation when I twist to full or near full throttle. It stumbles stumbles, then catches up and really goes.

It is a clean air filter, jet needles are in stock and only position they can be in. Although, there is a thick and thin shim on the top and bottom of the needle clip. I have the thick one on top, and thin one on bottom. Maybe it needs to be the other way? How to know for certain? Timing advancer is free and functional. I checked my float heights awhile back but probably should do it again. As for the plugs, I will pull tomorrow and share my findings

I have not, I upped the pilots assuming it will run better with the 4into1. I will try the stockers

With the VM carbs, you don't generally need to rejet for new exhaust unless you completely open them. The only time you need to jet up is if you swap out the stock airbox for pods.

Sounds great. I'll out stockers back in on pilots and mains
