new to the forum!! old gpz vm28 gpz1170 was created by ninjarider
Hi every one I'm josh just joined the forum!
I have a gpz1100 with a 1170 kit running a straight through harris pipe and carb conversion!

The problem is the bike was my dad's he passed away in 2005 and left the bike to me at the time I was only 16 so I couldn't ride it i have had alot of bikes since and it is time to put the old beasty back on the road.
Before it was stored he was having problems with it but was to Ill to sort it out. The inside of the tank had rusted and clogged up the carbs it was running a set of bs34,s god knows what happend to them!

So I now have a nice new clean tank and iam wondering what carbs to go with iam on a budget for now and was wondering if a set of vm28,s would work well or would they not have enough flow or a set of gsxr750 flatslides or back to.some bs34,s until I can afford.some thing better

Any help.would be much appreciated my dad ment alot to me and I want to do.him proud!!

Many regards josh

the 28mm carbs will allow it run well.

naturally bigger carbs(to a point) will have more performance.

but if you can find a good deal on some 28's get them and wait for a good deal on something bigger down the road.

VM28s would certainly be a good choice.

A set of VM26s can be had for very little cash and from there, you can send them wiredgrorge (in the Texas hill country) to have the "bored out" to 29mm smooth-bore equivalents. They aren't true smooth-bores, but they won't cost $1000 for a set either.

You could also look for a set of VM29 smoothbores. Every once in a while, someone will put them up on E-Bay and you might get lucky.

If you want to be daring, you could opt for some of the new RT carbs that Harley uses.

If you have the original airbox, you could also drop in a set of BS34s, but if you have to buy carbs, be warned that these guys can be particular and hard to tune without the original airbox. They are also a challenge to find parts for, specifically the rubber diaphragms that actually actuate the carbs.

Regardless of which you get, be sure to pick up new rubber mounts, and if you have the aibox, a set of rubber airbox boots.

Good luck.

Thank you for your replys.

It was running bs34s a long time.ago and went on the dyno.with.them and put put.out.115bhp at the.wheel but.I.remember.it having no low end power at all I have read that a proper dyno jet kit would solve this?

Has any one any experience running the.gsxr750 flat slide metal tops? I know they fit just wondered what they are like low down?
There's some good vm28s on ebay and a set of bs34,s and some gsxr carbs

a dynojet kit should bring either set of the cv's you linked to around to be good all around performers.
those 28mm pumper carbs wouldn't be a bad choice tho.

Anytime I have ordered anything from the UK it takes about 2 weeks to get to the US.

Welcome aboard!

If you don't mind my unsolicited advertisement, I have two sets of carbs you might be interested in: a set of 28 pumpers that will need to be rebuilt, and a set of 29mm smoothbores that were just rebuilt.

Please email me mmsmithgall [at] gmail [dot] com or PM for details.
