rebuilt carbs..still running poorly
25 May 2014 12:19
OK..I have had my 1980 kz1000 shaft carbs completely gone through..cleaned, jetted, etc...
it starts up great on choke....but when the choke is off..it sputters and bogs when i try to give it gas....
I hooked up the vacuum line to the #3 carb? wanted to make sure i have it hooked up right before i start turning screws..
like i said on choke it runs great no bog or sputtering
off choke, poor idle, popping, bogs out with acceleration
any help would be greatly appreciated...

Are all the vacuum ports on the carb holders capped? Ed

They should be. Cap them and see how it runs. Ed

I have made small clockwise turns to each air screw. About an 8 th to 1/4. Still a little spitting out of 4th carb. Do I still keep turning until it sounds right?

Are you using the stock air box and air filter? Ed

Jetted for 4:1 kerker. Cleaned rejetted synced. Aftermarket pods. Vacuum hose hooked up to #3 carb. Others capped off. Just popping and spitting on low idle rpms

Sounds like more jetting work required to make it run ok with pods. Ed

Nah. Just a few more tweaks I believe. But this has plagued me for months. Might just sell it and go for a fuel injected kawi

So I made it run a little richer and it's doing better but I'm not 100% confident yet. Seems like I had to make several clockwise adjustments but it's running better.
