Per kawasaki.com
KZ250-D1 (KZ250) (1980) Throttle Cable, Part No. 54012-1060, was used on the following three models:
KZ250-D1 (KZ250) (1980)
KZ250-D2 (CSR) (1981)
KZ250-L1 (CSR Belt) (1982)
I don't know which if any other model throttle cable might fit.
If interested:
Could also check with MotionPro for price of a custom cable.
Could Google the part number, but the few parts houses I looked at showed the part as no longer available.
Good Fortune!

I would figure out the approximate needed length & compare the stock ends to the various cables available at the Z1Enterprises.com. The slack needs to be at least the same as stock - a little more slack might be okay, but not less. don't ask how I know. doh.
Alternatively, assuming you have the stock throttle grip assy & stock carburetors, you could figure out the desired length, then get a custom cable made - either MotionPro or Barnett (I guess barnett makes custom cables?).

It wasn't too long but the main problem is that it doesn't fit Probably today, I'll use a drill and try to make the threads a little bigger as this bike will get new controls (eventually). Anyone know where I can get controls for this bike if things go wrong?
Are you kidding? If you ask me you are BEGGING for trouble! As I said before I highly recommend buying the cable that was made for your model bike rather than trying to force fit the wrong cable. You will end up wrecking more stuff which will cost you more money. Please don't be offended, but why are you so determined to create a problem rather than simply replace the part? Why not simply install the correct part and move on instead of creating a problem? Do yourself a huge favor and back away from the drill and buy the cable that is made for the bike - you will not regret doing so. Ed
