You should at least go up to 50 pilot jets regardless, those always ran best in my 750 twin.Schmeck wrote: I am running uni pod filters and straight pipes. Bad combination I know but it is what I have . I am running a 125 main and 45 slow which is what the rebuild kit came with like a year ago . What jet sizes do I need for pods and straight pipes or at least a general ball park estimate .
I am no expert on the mains for straight pipes, but 125 is stock so you are probably WAY too lean there. I think they step in degrees of 5 so 130 and 135 are next up. I don't know if they are still available?
You will also probably have problems with the needle taper not matching the flow rate so you may have to mve the clips and try washer shims on the needles.

The valve seals do fail regularly on these engines. That plug looks sooty to me rather than oil fouled but hard to tell from picture. When my seals failed, I would usually find oil cooked onto the left plug because gravity made the oil run down through the open valve across the plug tip.kaw-a-holic wrote: Perhaps your burning oil from bad rings or valve seals.

I have this site marked for main jets. I think it's fourth from top.

Thanks again bounty hunter , as you know I have been fighting this bike for awhile. Any issues are going to be within the carburetor . Engine is in check and it has a brand new wiring harness using a capacitor to replace battery . Would putting mufflers on give me some pressure for top end?
