Lean engine ?
14 May 2014 12:33
I am running uni pod filters and straight pipes. Bad combination I know but it is what I have . I am running a 125 main and 45 slow which is what the rebuild kit came with like a year ago . What jet sizes do I need for pods and straight pipes or at least a general ball park estimate .

Perhaps your burning oil from bad rings or valve seals. Typically if you are running lean it is across the entire bank if you have them tuned correctly. Have the carbs been cleaned? Float levels set correctly using clear tube method?

14 May 2014 17:45 - 14 May 2014 17:55You should at least go up to 50 pilot jets regardless, those always ran best in my 750 twin.Schmeck wrote: I am running uni pod filters and straight pipes. I am no expert on the mains for straight pipes, but 125 is stock so you are probably WAY too lean there. I think they step in degrees of 5 so 130 and 135 are next up. I don't know if they are still available?
You will also probably have problems with the needle taper not matching the flow rate so you may have to mve the clips and try washer shims on the needles.

Re: Lean engine ?
14 May 2014 17:47The valve seals do fail regularly on these engines. That plug looks sooty to me rather than oil fouled but hard to tell from picture. When my seals failed, I would usually find oil cooked onto the left plug because gravity made the oil run down through the open valve across the plug tip.kaw-a-holic wrote: Perhaps your burning oil from bad rings or valve seals.

I have this site marked for main jets. I think it's fourth from top.

Re-set the float levels and put new b7es plugs in ( autozone doesn't carry the 6 so I gotta order it ) . Motor runs better now and is fast . Now the issues. When it is sitting and idling it pops . And when I get up to 60 it doesn't want to climb as fast as the low end . I still have those original jets in and the needle clip is in the lowest position possible. Does the needle need to be richer or leaner to pull the top end up more?
Thanks again bounty hunter , as you know I have been fighting this bike for awhile. Any issues are going to be within the carburetor . Engine is in check and it has a brand new wiring harness using a capacitor to replace battery . Would putting mufflers on give me some pressure for top end?
