BS34 and a PSP Engine. was created by kimsmith4807
Have been struggling almost two years trying to get the CV carbs to work with a modified PSP engine. Joe did a great job on the rebuild but I didn't stress enough that it needed to be streetable. Maybe it is, I just haven't figured that part out yet. I know many of you will chime in with many good suggestions and lord knows I been down that road before. I guess what I'm looking for is someone out there that's had the same or very close to the same engine mods that I have and what works best with the BS34's if that's even possible. I have very speciific engine build details like valve sizes and valve overlap, head flow data if it would help but the bulk of the mods include the 1075 bore, stage II porting, 3X cams, big valves, lots of overlap (low vacuum pull I think), pods or factory air box and an open header in the form of a KERKER with a street baffle. If the solution is a set of RS I'm ok with that. I just need to know whether there is hope or not for the CV's. As always, I appreciate any and all comments and suggestions.

If you run the BS carbs you will need to keep the stock airbox and do need good vacuum to function properly. The RS carbs are manual slide and will work with pods and will probably be a better match for the head work and cams.

You will NOT get the BS34 to work with your engine. I have an 82 GPZ1100 engine modded with MTC 1170 kit, APE #119 cams, stage I porting and Kerker KR pipe. PSP also did all the machine work on my engine. I spent over $400.00 in jet kits and other parts for the BS34's and over a year of my time trying to get the BS34 tuned to work with my engine. I even went so far as to buy another good set of BS34's thinking the rack I had, had something wrong in the castings. The second set acted just like the first set, huge flat spot right off idle and a hanging idle. And no a jet kit WILL NOT solve the problems. I could never could get them to work. I ended up buying Mikuni RS36's, these are fantastic almost perfect out of the box. They are worth the money, trust me. Do not do what I did and waste your time and money on the BS34's. There are people who say they have gotten them to work on modded engines but when I ask for the details I never get any from them.

Peter, thanks for that link. I remember it and it helps when I try and re-visit some of the older threads. I know it'll neve be as good as it should. I guess I was looking for what jetting worked the best.
