1978 kz650 replacement float bowl
12 Apr 2014 17:31
I have a 1978 kz650 and after a long week of scratching my head as to to why the carb float bleed off was always dripping I found that it was the bowl it self was leaking right from the bleed off tube. Can anyone point me towards where I could find replacement float bowls.

Finding a replacement bowl may take some time. Remember to get the bowl that matches the side the carb is on. The drain screws on 1&2 face the opposite direction than that of carbs 3&4. In the meantime, you may want to try replacing the brass tube. Here's a link to some info on that process. Ed

That actually really helps. I realize finding replacements is gonna be a pain. One thing I noticed about the bowl in question is it differs from the rest. The bowl that leaks has a 2 stamped on the inside while the other 3 have a 1 stamped in them. Makes me think that someone replaced it before. I will try that fix as it would be simple and easy. But I think I'll wait till I do find new ones.

Which carburetor & do they have the accelerator pump? Can you post a photo of the float bowl?
You might be able to find something on eebbaayy. In the mean time if the leak is at the base of the overflow tube, you can try using an epoxy to seal it. Permatex liquid metal might work. I've used the stuff a couple of times for the petcock & low fuel switch, and it has held up to gasoline --- no leaks.

I have a LH side float bowl from some Suzuki VM22's. It's yours for the cost of shipping if that would help.

I can send you one for the cost of shipping + the cost of 1/2 of a can of Michelob Ultra Light. As said above, can you post a picture so I know if I have the right one. I have some just laying around.
