No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationProbably 5/16. I've tried a 1/4 filter on my 81 650 (VM24 carbs) & it was a tad too small for the fuel line.

A note about plastic fuel filters. Some of them become soft from exposure to gasoline w ethanol.
I got a KL19-1272-1 from Z1Enterprises.com & the ends became bendy. I think someone said the "MA" filters at Z1Ent are fne, but I didn't see a 5/16 listed. I'm not sure what brand MA is. KL = K&L.

Next time I'm getting a metal filter w a replaceable/cleanable element, probably a Russell.
This one might be an Emgo, but it looks the same as the Russell.

Beware if you put fuel filter(s) on, and the bike suddenly won't run right. take the filter(s) back off. Filters work great with fuel pumps, not always so well with gravity fed carburetors.

I installed a 5/16" Golan Super Mini Fuel Filter Part Number 70-312G along with Goodyear 5/16" Fuel Hose SAE 30R7 Part Number 65123. The filter specs are below - notice it passes up to 6 gallons per minute and filters down to 10 microns (lees than 4/10,000 inch). The stainless steel element can be washed and the whole filter is very compact (see picture below). Not the cheapest filter in town, but it will last forever. I had a Russell, and it was made well enough, but it was rather large for the space between the tank and carbs. Ed

"After success with our first fuel filter, we at GIS Products made a decision to manufacture new fuel filters for the High Performance Motorcycle and Go Kart Industries, and today we have the best billet, stainless steel, washable, reusable and performance fuel filters in those two industries.
Filter Element: Designed and engineered for the aerospace industry, for rugged, high temperatures, and extreme filtration environments, made of pleated, 304 stainless steel, 10 micron (.000392"), 1.000” Diameter. Totaling four square inches of effective filtration area, mini/super mini filter provides a maximum flow of 6 gallons per minute simultaneously with no restriction. Filter elements are washable and reusable indefinitely, cleaned easily with air or soluble rinse.
Bodies: Machined on CNC from 6061 aluminum, chrome plated or clear bright anodize finish.

Some filters don't flow enough fuel (without a fuel pump), so get one intended for motorcycles (gravity feed). The type w the sintered bronze element ought to work fine. Something else to be aware of is whether or not your tank is rusty... the particles can clog the petcock screen.

You may want to spend a little more time with your bike. Take a look at the bottom of the fuel tank. You will see the petcock (this is the fuel valve) has a fuel line that goes directly into the "T" fitting between the center 2 carbs. If you add an inline filter (you should) it goes between the petcock and that fuel fitting. Unlike machines that use fuel injection and need a pump to create the pressure to squirt the fuel into the cylinders, fuel pumps are not needed or used on any KZ bikes that use carbs. Gravity is more than sufficient to keep the carb bowls filled. Ed

Awesome thanks Ed and everyone else. Wish I could spend more time. It however is an hour and a half drive to work on it with no internet. Sorry for all the mundane questions. Not alot of money to put into it and am super grateful for all the help.

I'll make it a tad confusing by saying that some KZs do in fact have an accelerator pump. The AP isn't exactly a fuel pump that most folks thing of, though, but it is a fuel pump of sorts... a simple mechanical thingy. eric77kz's bike probably doesn't have it, but the later KZ650s do... may as well know about it now. :)
