Mikuni VM 33 question

I am currently running the VM 26s with accelerator pump (working) and 122.5 main jets. The bike runs well in midrange up to about 7,000 rpm, but to me it feels I would get a much better top end with bigger carbs. Obviously the VM 29 smoothbores would be ideal, but I was hoping to spend less and go with the 33s....
Let me know what y'all think! Thanks.

Could probably tune for acceptable performance at WOT.
But the difficult issue is tuning for really good performance at lower throttle positions.
My understanding of the reason -- which could be incorrect -- is that the "signal" or "suction power of air flow being pulled through the carb bores" at lower throttle positions is too weak when 33's are fitted to stock or lightly over-bored large Kaw fours.
33's are more successfully fitted to very large over-bores.

The larger smoothbores have a bad reputation regarding low end tunability; can't say for sure if it is deserved or not. The BS34s are easy to tune and provide great all around performance on stock OR modified bikes.
Good Fortune!
