I have the same plug - Kawasaki call them "cap polyester" in my 1980 KZ750/4 carbs and it looks like they they were used on the 440s also.
They just pull out The only thing holding them in place is an O ring.

If you are already there, you can replace the o'rings of the polyester caps. That cap is intended to let the slow pilot jet feed through the main jet, no directly from the float bowl.
