Are the 28's with acc pump any good?

Just bough a 79 Mark II motor with the 28 ans a acc pump. Are these carbs pretty decent. I am pretty sure I will be using them with pods and a header as I have no airbox. Just looking for a little feedback on them.

Yes, once you eliminate the accelerator pump and rejet accordingly. Since you wil be rejetting anyway, not an issue. You just need a block-off plate.

The pump was really more of an emissions/fuel-mileage issue, in my opinion. It allowed for leaner jetting while cruising, while still enrichening during acceleration. Upjetting the pilot and/or needle is more consistent and gets rid of a bunch of variables.

If you do remove the pump setup, I'd be interested in the whole setup.

I liked the accelerator pumps - on a warm day I'd hop on it, twist the throttle a couple of times, and fire it up with no choke required.
My wife asked me if I still loved her - I said "Honey, I love you more than new carburetor boots ! "

I will keep that in mind Les. One slide is stuck pretty tight in the bore. I think I will give the pump a try if I get these working. That does souns nice GPZEric.

A heat gun on the carb body will soften the varnish post haste, and allow the slide to fall free.
