I'm trying to put back the EGR. But (don't laugh! ) I'm having trouble finding the vacuum ports. Are the carb mounts mounts reversed so the vacuum ports look up and those are used instead of being plugged?

This is how the top of my carbs look

And this is from the bottom where the vacuum ports are (and plugged with new plugs)

When I got the bike the airbox was removed and so the EGR system, two of the vacuum ports where plugged with some shrinking cap, initially I thought that the plugs were lost but now I'm starting to believe that the EGR goes in the #2 and #3 carbs vacuum. Hoses are too short to connect to the vacuum ports from below.

I have the Service manual but didn't find much info. This is the best I found but I have no vacuum port that matches the graphic.

According to the Kawasaki Service Manual the #1 and #4 carb holders should be turned so their vacuum ports point up and toward the center of the engine. Vacuum ports on holders #2 & #3 should still point down and toward the outside like other models. Then the vacuum switch valve connects to the air cleaner housing, the suction valves, and the #1 and #4 carb holders. Ed

Thank you Ed. I couldn't find it in the service manual, but reversing the carb mounts is the only thing that seems logical. I guess I will have to take of the carbs one more time. And thank you for confirming that I DON'T have to keep looking for missing ports! :side:

FYI that system is not an EGR system. It is to inject fresh air into the exhaust port in an attempt to get the exhaust to burn more cleanly not resurculate the eshaust back into the intake charge.
