I checked my float height on my 84 GPz550 with the clear hose. Setting the clear hose to the side of the carb in the middle, the gas comes into the hose and is about 1/8" below the base of the carb body where the float bowl screws on. What is the actual measurement below the base supposed to be? I've got one that I keep adjusting the float on and found the needle tip has a groove wore into it. Went to dealer to get new needles and they're not available. Can get a carb rebuild kit for $30 but it only does one carb. Guess I might as well buy 4 and get it over with but got to wait.
