rs or flatsides was created by jonarmstrong
My bike runs good as is but everyone wants a little more. I've obviously been looking at a cam swap and a 1075 is in the near future. I've also been looking at carbs and now my question is what's the difference between rs34 and 34flatsides? I know they have diff shape slides but they are both mech carbs, right? Is there a performance difference?

RS 34 Mikuni carbs are flatslide carbs. What are you calling "flatside" carbs?

. Was looking on eBay at carbs and some were called flat sides and appeared to.be so on the actual casings and saw others that were round that were listed as "rs". That's why I'm asking. From everything I have read mech carbs are more responsive than cv carbs and wanted to stay in the 34 range so my intake boots would work. Just learning here!

As already stated, Rs series carbs are flatslides. Mechanical carbs are the way to go. Iam personally running RS 36's. The only thing i dont really care for on them is at idle they "clack". I believe its just the slides but was told by a couple other people that all RS series carbs have it. But after some time you dont even notice it anymore.

What size bore are you running? I'm wanting to stay away from overheating w the smaller bore. Wasn't sure about the 36s thinking they would be too big for a 1075

Sorry, saw the 1327 in your signature. Would 36s be too big for a 1075?

I know guys running 34's on stock motors and are happy, with that being said, 36's on a 1075 can't be ruled out. Now, here is where it gets tricky, 34's, even on a 1200, when thrown wide open at idle will bog, fact! To run mechanical flat slide carbs and enjoy them requires a little understanding of why they bog so you can learn when they are going to do it. I'm not going to go into that, that's up to you but myself, for a stock motor with mild mods, go 34's, going bigger, say up to a 1200 with a mildly ported head, mild cams, go with the 36's. If a build is in the future, flip a coin. Understand, I state this assuming you're going to ride hard or at least some what aggressive a lot of the time.
Not real clear, is it? Welcome to the cold hard world of playing with a hot rod. B)

OOPS, just reread your post. RS and Flat slides are one and the same.

I did run mine 36s with a 1075 kit. They did bog and would want to fall on its face when nailed from lower rpm. i would probably recommend that you go with the 34s. i think they will treat you better than 36s will with a 1075 kit. The 36's are just a bit on the big side for a smaller bore. But they will work.
