On my 78 KZ1000 with Mikuni 28 pumpers, I'm looking for a ballpark jet# and needle setting for UNI foam pods and an OPEN exhaust. I've read that the needles have different notches but I only see one. It does have two nylon washers. The jets in the carb now are 51 pilots and 115 on the needle jets. Are these stock? They both have a symbol on them that looks like a square with a smaller square in one corner. So what kinda mess have I got here?

Also, I just now used my digital caliper inside the small end of the carbs and they measure 30.25mm. I thought this was supposed to read 28mm ? ? ?

i am pretty sure you will need to go with 120 mains.
i think the 15 pilots might be okay to start with.
the no grooves on the needles kinda has me puzzled tho.

What is stock jetting for 78 KZ1000A2a? Even though my caliper is reading 30, is it still considered a 28mm?

First you need to figure out if your carbs are vm26ss or vm28ss carbs, as it is my understanding that both were used during the 78 model year. You can measure them, to do so you need to measure where the slide meets the carb throat. But there should be an ID stamped on the flange of carb#1 just below the choke lever which may make it easier to ID..
