Z1R - did they have their own carbs? was created by HAFROD
I had ordered a new fuel T from my local Kawasaki dealer. I went to get it today and its smaller than my original. They relooked up the diagram for a 78 KZ1000A2A and it showed part number of one they got me. They looked at a B model and it was the same. They then looked up a Z1R and it had a different part number but no longer available. I'm going to get the aluminum one from Z1 enterprises now. Someone said my carbs were Mikuni 28s. They do have an accelerator pump on the bottom. Is the carbs I have not original to my bike?

I have some 26 pumpers off of a 79 KZ1000 and the fuel tees look the same as my 80 KZ1000 Ltd which has 28 pumpers(with 2 T's) like yours and mine are original to the bike. I did put new tees(2) on the 79 carbs.

I think I seen a picture of yours and it has the single tee in the middle? If it does then those I think are longer due to the middle spacing being longer if I am right. I think someone mentioned(could be wrong) that your carbs were 79 or 80. I think they are 28 pumpers also and if have a single feed tee then they came off of a bike that uses the single fuel line and might be the Z1R.

1980 KZ1000 LTD-B4(MK II engine) - Progressive suspension, MTC pistons, Dynojet Stage III, all wear items replaced, WFO paint scheme(1978), etc..

Past bikes- 2 1976 Kz900's, 5 1975-76 Honda CB750's, Honda 500 -4, Honda 250, Honda 125, Honda 100, Suzuki RM 250, Honda XL350, Kawasaki KLR 650, etc..

Yes, the Z1R and A2/A2A had different carbs. The A2 and A2A had 26mm, while the '78 Z1R had 28mm, but neither had an accelerator pump. And yes, the '78 Z1R carbs are unique to that year.

I believe that if your carbs have the accelerator pump, they are not from any 1978 model. Based on the Kawasaki parts diagrams, the pumper carbs didn't show up until the '79 KZ1000-A3 model.
