Just wait for ebay to have a junk set of 26mm selling for parts. Ask the seller if the grommets are OK.

I might be listing some in the near future if I can find them. They were 1978 26's. The year the mixture screw was on the bottom of the bowl. Factory had that white nylon limiter cap on the screws, so you could only turn the screw a 1/4 turn each way

I was going to do that, but I realized eventually even those would turn crusty. I want to find an alternative that everyone can easily find for a decent price, and we can stop recycling the old stuff. Sure, we could drop the cash on some oe replacements, but its only a matter of time before the supply dries up. I guess the alternative to that is a custom order from a manufacturer, and end up with something almost exactly like the original. It's just not going to be me, at this time.
I'm going to give a call to a seal specialty company tomorrow and see what they have to say about fitment. If I can, I'll get a couple and report back, can't hurt to try, right? Who knows, a generic shaft seal might work just as well, but something has got to be better than my 35 year old originals.

Just what is wrong exactly with your 35 year old originals???
I can not detect any issue with my original 1978 KZ 650SR originals.

I do belive a member here purchased my carbs "new old ride" ? $100 for the whole deal. But man were these grommets sweet! Soft and pliable and tight. They were sitting in a box in my cellar foe 20 plus years.
These grommets have to be right on! any vacumm leak will change the performance into the carb body big time!

?? If the grommets are the ones that the carb linkage shaft runs through I do not believe they can in any way create or contribute much to a vacuum leak. Keep in mind, that when you synchronize the carbs you do so with the top caps removed, so if the grommets could cause a vacuum leak surely removing the carb tops also would. But removing the carb tops doesn't create a leak or you could never synch the carbs, so I don't think there is any vacuum being pulled in the top area of the carbs which means the grommets couldn't contribute to a vacuum leak. Am I missing something?? Ed

Wow! what an idiot I am! You are correct Sir! you have to adjust the carbs with the tops off, alternate fuel supply, wih a set of vacumm guages. Good thing is, I made some green folding money! I like Peter 1958, he has 60 sets of carbs, I am down to 2 or 3 sets. I have the ones for my Hot Rod.
So, why not neoprene hose only?, a little cap made for the 2 ends?. I make all kinds of stuff!

If you really need some I can go look in the garage some time . But they would be buried and would take some time. I have a bunch in the shed too . Can look there. Hell I was in the basement yesterday looking in a box of carb parts and found 2 valves for a head I have . Have been looking for them for a year.

Its because of the point that 650ed made that I decided to forgo the oil seal - grommet issue. If unmetered air could get by through the carb tops it would make synching a nightmare. The seals on my set of carbs were not crumbling, but they were severely dried out and cracked. I was able to massage them back on without causing any further damage and they will probably last a little longer. I want to look into this again but I have to agree that buying used will have to do for now lol.
