so as the title states i need some adivce on jetting,
its a freshly rebuiilt 77 kz1000, new rings, valve job, etc.
originally purchased for 400 bucks, total basket case, hadn't run since '02, didn't have carbs on it when purchased
picked up a good pair of rebuilt stock carbs from a 74 z1a, have the 2 screws on top covers, and side angled drain screws on the bowls
other modifications include K&N pods, V&H 4-1 with a cone engineering reverse cone megaphone, dyna s ignition, dyna coils and wires.
im going to have a pro go through and do all the synch and tune, im just looking for advice on what size jets i should pick up before hand so i dont have to pay his prices to get them.
Thanks KZR community!

The original carbs would be Mikuni RS28 or RS26s, IIRC.

The carbs you've chosen are an unusual choice, so I expect you're going to have to experiment a little bit. There's no guarantee that these won't work stock. The good news is that they appear to be the same carbs used by Harley for that time period, so getting the parts should be relatively easy.

Start with 125 mains and 17.5 pilots. Those carbs should work fine.

FYI the Mikuni RS series of carbs were not around in 1977. The carbs you have sound like the Mikuni VM 28's, a good carb and should work fine.

In my opinion 125s are too rich, Id start with 115s then maybe 117.5s.

well, change of plans. was originally just going to hone my cylinder and put new rings on the stock pistons, however my mechanic just informed me that the cylinder walls are to glazed/rusted to hone. so it looks like ill be boring 2 over and going with 1075cc pistons. still going to use the stock head and cams. any idea on how this will effect me using these carburetors?

36 years ago I had Superbike Mike, a Kawasaki Pro Stock racer at the time in Ft Lauderdale Fl., make my 76 900 into an 1105, street port, cams, Kerker etc. He used the stock 115 mains in the stock 26 mm carbs w/stock air box and it was a rocket ship back then. Ive since changed it to 29mm smoothbores since but the motor is still going and going good. Not Busa good but old KZ good and transplanted into a 78 frame due to a wreck. Others have their own ideas so that's all I can offer you is an opinion

Didn't catch that. At least the info I posted can be used as a guide.
My st has an 1105 kit.with short duration cams, air box with K&N
and stock pipes. Cams are high lift, short duration, .390ish lift,
266°. Jetting is; 17.5 pilot, needle raised one notch and 115 mains.
I'm running the stock vm28 pumper carbs. The non pumper carbs
will need a little more fuel
