Master Carburetor? 1981 Kz750 4

I'm about to tune my carbs on a 81 kz750 4-cylinder bike and was wondering if there was a master carb that I set the other three equal to. Any info helps!

Cheers,

I don't think there's a master carb. You're supposed to synchronize them in pairs.
Sync 1 & 2 as a pair. Then 3 & 4 as a pair. Then 1-2 & 3-4 as a pair.

Here's a site w a manual & wiring diagrams. mbsween.bike-night KZ750L3 page
Scroll down & click "The Bible" link. Pg 15 has the carb sync procedure.

(note for the 750-Ltds: some of the wiring diagrams are mislabeled in the links. The 1981 Ltd is an H2, the 82 is an H3, & the 83 is an H4). search tags mbsween KZ750L3

I have the 1980 750/ E1 with Keihin CV34 carbs which I am pretty sure is same as yours. The bike is under wraps until spring and it's a couple of years since I synced the carbs but I THINK (not totally sure) you will find that everything gets synced to the #2 carb. I think 1,3 and 4 are the only ones with set screws and lock nuts

I use the Morgan Carbtune tool.

Good luck.

I want to say it's the #2 carb... but I'm snowed in here, and am thus drunk.

Going out on a real skinny limb... Some mechanical slide carburetors have a reference or master carb, but some don't such as the VM24s on my 81 650. And I don't think his CV carburetors do either. However, in that pdf file at the KZ750L3 site, the carb sync instructions aren't real clear. For the 82 650 w BS32 carburetors the procedure is basically as described above.

The instructions for vacuum sync tools will say to calibrate the device by using the vacuum from the master carb, but I don't think it's applicable to all carb racks. For those that don't, I think you can use any carb to calibrate the tool.
