Smoothbore slow jet was created by uglee
Ok guys I HAD a set of 29mm smoothies that I was gonna try and rebuild. During the tear down I found a stuck slow jet and tried to drill it out. Got it close and used a pick to dig out the remaining part of the brass jet. Screwed up the threads and now cant find a tap to fix it. Does anyone have any info or suggestions on how or if I can fix this problem without shipping my carbs off?

What ever you do don't send them to www.motorcyclecarbs.com/
They take your money and/or parts and don't respond to any further contact.
Check them out on Ripoff Report.
They don't supply a phone no.
I wished I lived near them as they would not be around today

You can helicoil it. you would have to find the size and thread pitch of your jet. A helicoil would allow you to tap a bigger diameter with the same thread pitch, tap new threads, insert helicoil, and install new stock jet. You would have to buy a helicoil kit and depending on the quality of the kit, may be about the same price as having a pro fix it. Never the less, still a DIY option.

If you could find a metal screw and lube it up then work it in and out you might have some luck.

You could take that a small step further and use a Dremel to make a cut length-wise along the screw and deburr it, to create your own tap. I'd use a high quality steel screw.

all good advice guys but this is the very small jet down in the carb body. local father and son hardware/auto parts store had nothing that small, so I know the big stores won't be able to help me.

I have broken one before and used one of my left handed drill bits. It came right out.

Well I tried remove it with a regular drill bit. Got a little too happy and now need to find a tap. Blew off a set of cabs from ebay(26mm) and will try them on the bike this weekend. they were pretty clean just had a few parts missing. Good thing I had an xtra set layin around,

By slow jet I assume you are talking about the pilot jet. If that is the case then IIRC it is a Mikuni vm22/210 style pilot jet. It should be 14 mm in length and about 4mm in diameter (across the top of the jet) I do not remember the thread pitch for them but would think you could take one of the good ones you have and find a nut that would fit it. You would then have the size tap you need.
