I think I mentioned this on here before, but I can't find my old post.

I am running a single VM34 carb on my 79 KZ400.

I checked my plugs last night and my right one is black while my left one is white.

What reasons can you guys think of for this?

Here are mine...

1) Air leak on left side

2) Timing?

3) Compression?

4) Poorly made intake?

Sooty black or oily black? Sooty could be poor ignition on that side: bad spark plug or incorrect gap, problem w spark plug wires or connections. Make sure the spark plugs are correct & properly gapped. Redo the spark plug wire connections. If it is the original coil, maybe consider getting a new one? If you have points ignition, make sure it is properly adjusted. Clean & lubricate the advancer.

Sooty black.

I'll check timing and spark tonight.
