Petcock

I can't stand the sight of the colossal vacuum operated fuel valve, plus mine needed replaced. Here is the route I chose to go with.
I bought a petcock on off and reserve, it is 3/8 tap.
I am a machinist by trade and had a block of aluminum laying around, so I made myself a custom bracket for the new fuel valve.

It sounds like you reinvented your own wheel. ... and probably saved some money. ;)

Wonder if it would be cool to use a bicycle tire inner tube cut for a gasket?

I think the Pingel gasket is a fiber-type gasket. You could make one out of gasket material from the auto parts store.
