inside of carb jb weld? was created by dkoz
While preping these carbs for cleaning I ran across this piece that looks to have been j b wielded.
This is one of two mounts that hold the pins for the float. Can some one recommend a product that will hold this in place that's gas tolerant..other than finding a welder

From JB Weld FAQs regarding its use in gasoline:

"Is J-B Weld resistant to water and/or gasoline?

When fully cured, J-B Weld is completely resistant to water, gasoline, and about every other petroleum product or automotive chemical. For wet-surface or submerged water or gasoline repairs, try our SteelStik or WaterWeld."

I've used JB Weld on carb bodies but not inside the float bowl.

JB weld is NOT gas proof. Over time it will break down if submerged in gas. I would be looking for a replacement body for that. Any fix is going to be ghetto and temporary.

You could clean up the mating surfaces so they align back to the original fracture surface and then gun drill the stem and valve body with a regular drill bit then tap the body and run a long screw down and JB weld then fracture and screw it into place. Should hold....

+1

If you patch it and it fails you can bet it will fail at the most inconvenient time and place. Ed

yes thats been my experience as well ed..i dont know of a product that sticks submerged.and ive had little luck with jb weld..i think that is what the past owner used.it was holding until i started taping the float pin out. stazi might be onto something maby tap and screw first then paste with jb

JB weld may not work submerged as that is pretty rough, but just for the record it is pretty good at sealing a small gas leak. I had my Dyna3 box mounted under the tank and it apparently was rubbing the tank, one day I smelled gas and found the box had rubbed a hole in the tank. I cleaned off the paint, ect, gooped on the JB weld and it hasn't leaked a drop yet, and this is a good 20yrs ago, probably closer to 25. The stuff does have it's uses, but not inside a carb.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I seem to remember there was a guy I think in California that did micro welding on carb bodies for this exact problem and it was pretty reasonable.....just cannot place his name, maybe someone else will chime in?

Thanks to Patton on the links he gave me.I got in touch with jim at jmf micro welder in Georgia.
25 bucks plus shipping. It was slightly crooked but is totaly functional.. float pin stays in and float moves freely
