Is It true, that if you fill up your tank,& run it thru your carbs, (Racing Fuel), that you don't have to worry about using a stabilizer, or the fuel going bad, when storing over the winter ??...Pete

My experience with race fuel (VP110 leaded) is yes. It is much more stable than pump swill. It will not spoil for a year or more.

Don't be ridiculous! It's only a flesh wound!

I'm not a believer in letting a bike sit over the Winter without being run periodically, even if with fuel stabilizer or fuel that is inherently stable. If you do plan to do that you probably should "fog" your bike's cylinders with "motor fogging oil" the same way boat motors are done when being stored. I run my engine at least once every 2 weeks over the Winter for about 15 minutes. Doing this ensures no fuel sits in the carbs too long, but just as important (to me) it ensures oil remains on the cylinder walls, cams, etc. and it keeps the battery fresh. I let it warm up thoroughly to evaporate any condensation that may form in the pipes. I skipped this routine once about 20 years ago and was rewarded by having to remove and clean the carbs. That was enough to convince me not to let it sit. Ed

Let me clarify...
I have a race bike that consumes VP110. At the end of the season, I put the bike in proper storage,(drain oil, gas and top-end oiled) but the fuel in the can is good to go the following season. My .02 Paul

Thanks Blackbashee, & Slayer, & I agree with 650ed, I like to start & let it run for about 15 mins. at least once a month, I also move it about a foot,or so, either forward or backword, so the tires are not sitting on one spot all winter, I also use a smart charger, that turns off automatically when the battery is fully charged, & when the battery gets a little low it will turn itself back on till fully charged .. as a regular trickle charger will stay on all the time, & ends up frying the battery a lot sooner ...Pete

Dammit. The red box in the bottom of the post for which you wish to say "thank you"? My English teacher would be appalled!

Slayer, I wouldn't think it would be a good idea to leave the oilpan, drained of oil all winter, don't think it would be good for the bottom end, or the oil pump, ...but I'm not a mechanic :(

Pete,
It's a "dry sump" motor and the oil pump gets primed prior to start-up ;) Paul
