Per Z1E:

We have included the Honda CB750 settings as a reference. You will notice the similarity of setup - so.... if you can find a set of 29mm carbs off a CB750, they should work on a Z1.

The chart patton provided does show a kz650 with 29mm carbs.

That chart is simply showing what the jetting would be if the carb is used on that model bike. It was not intended to imply that those are the carbs that came as original equipment on those bikes. Believe me, no KZ650 ever came with 29mm smooth bore carbs as original equipment. Ed

Similarly to the KZ650, no CB750 ever came with VM29 smoothbores from the factory. In fact, the smoothbores were never a factory installed carb for any bike, but were a common performance upgrade available through Kawasaki, Honda, and Suzuki dealers.

To answer your question, yes the 29mm smoothbores are a direct fit in your stock boots for VM26 carbs.

Please note that if you locate some smoothbores which came from a Suzuki, to check the slide cutaway size. The Suzuki carbs used larger 2mm cutaways which make tuning for a KZ difficult. Replacement slides with 1.5mm cutaways are available, but a set of 4 will set you back about $240 plus tax and shipping. Also stripped jet blocks are a common problem. Also repairable, but again you are looking at about $160 plus tax and shipping for a set of new jet blocks.

The 29mm smoothbores are excellent carbs when dialed in, but if the seller knows what he has, they will likely sell for $500 to $700. If you lay out that kind of cash and get a set that needs slides or jet blocks it will add up fast.

There's a company that will do a 'pseudo' 29mm bore on existing 26mm carbs. I don't have the details, but they are in the desert southwest someplace.

Sounds right. He's been popping up in one of the other forums I read. I've never had him do the work, but the price sounded right and if it works, could save about $1500 over buying a set of actual smooth-bores.

Let me tell you from my own experience you are way better off to buy new carbs I would just get whole of schnitz racing they have carbs way cheaper than anyone else . For around 700 you can have a new set of carbs shipped to you, by the time you buy a used set and buy parts, jets etc.. you will be money ahead to buy new
