Hi
Can anyone confirm the proper part number for the carborator boots at the cylinder head for a 1983 KZ1000J3 Canadian Standard model. Partzilla lists #16065A-1131 and 16065-1135. The first part listed is roughly $35/boot and the second $21/boot. Insight into why there are two part numbers would be appreciated. I heard from a dealer 16065-1135 is for a J1 and J2 although they are confirming with Kawi. That would leave #16065A-1131 for the J3? Anyhow I put new 1065-1135 boots on about 750K ago and I have just been told they are all loose and dried out contributing to some idle issues!

Could be wrong, but would guess carb holders for #1 and #2 carbs may have vacuum nipple pointing toward port (left) side, and that carb holders for #3 and #4 carbs may have vacuum nipple pointing toward starboard (right) side, in order to afford easier access for attaching sync tubes and reaching the caps/plugs.

Good Fortune! :)

Thanks for your reply. This was the second set of boots I have replaced in 14 years and there are/were never any vaccum nipples on them.

The boots shouldn't have any nipples if you run stock carbs, the BS34's have the vacuum nipples sitting in the carb bodies.

As for the different numbers, I never noticed that, but it appears it has to do with the shape and position of the groove inside the boots, here's what Z1Enterprises write about them (note that their price is for a set of four):

16065-1131:

Equivalent to OEM: 16065-1131 16065-1066 Set of 4 intake manifolds - 34mm Carb bore size,40mm carb spigot diameter, 58mm between bolt hole centers, 25mm depth. Triangular groove approximately 1/8" from end of carb spigot.

11065-1035:

I have a set of 11065-1135 on my bike (GPz 1100 B2 engine w/BS 34 carbs), no mounting problems or leaks at all.

OnkelB,
This information is very helpful. Thanks very much. Another question though, the boots on there now which are the incorrect ones dried out very quickly to the point where the clamps were easily rotatable around them. When installed 1.5 years ago they were tight. Does Kawi ship NOS boots that have been sitting on a shelf for years that could have dried out even before use? This is another issue all together.

I honestly don't know, but I guess it could be possible - 1.5 years is definitely way too short a lifespan, the boots on my 1100 are 5 years old and on my 650 even older, both sets are still perfectly fine. They are not NOS Kawasaki items though but aftermarket, so they were actually new when I bought them.

Correct boots are now installed. Part misunderstanding and incompatibility here has been a problem for years I think and she is now running well (no leaks and fluctuating idle and intermittent stalling when stopping). This was covered in a post some months ago. I also put in a nos ignition system for good measure (coils, igniter, ignition 1&2 and 3&4 and new plugs). Bike generally feels very responsive and tight.

Many thanks guys!
