kz400 single carb help
11 Sep 2013 14:07
i know this topic has been beat to death...but here it goes.
what carb is the best to use on my 76 kz 400 with a 11th hour 2 into 1 intake.
currently i have a keihin pj34 and don't want to spend too much time chasing something i will never get dialed in.
it seems like all the threads i read nobody has gotten that perfect carb setup.
any help would be great.

Have you checked the KZtwins forum? There's a bunch of info about single carb conversions there.

A while back, someone on KZR used a carburetor from a late model Kawasaki ATV, a KVF400 or KFX or something like that in the 2004-06 year range. I couldn't find the topic - it was 440 bobber or 440 custom bobber. He made a manifold from copper pipe & fittings and the single pod filter was angled towards the side.

I got damn near perfect with the setup I did on my KZ440.
Here's the thread for it- www.kzrider.com/forum/3-carburetor/58752...ngle-carb-conversion
If you bought a new carb, I'd go with a VM30 or VM32 and step the main jet down to a 150 or so. The #25 pilot jet should be about right too.

did you specify the 30 or 32 because the 34 may be a bit big for the kz400.

yeah just based on my experience with the 440. I would think a 32 would be perfect on the 400. you could probably get the 34 to work with a #25 pilot and #140 or #150 main. I've never worked with a Keihin slide carb but I would think the jet sizes are similar? someone else might have to chime in on that one.
