FUEL QUESTION was created by lhemrick
I have an 81 KZ550. Do I need to concern myself with Ethanol in my fuel? I usually purchase 100% gasoline but the only station in my area that has it has let me down. I filled up the other day and suddenly couldn't get the bike over 60. It just wouldn't go any faster. I drained it went and got some other fuel (with Ethanol) and it runs fine now.
Thanks!
Thanks!

If its 10 or 15% you are ok....It might become a concern over 15%.
We are 10% in Ohio and I don't have a problem.
They are required to post the percentage of ethanol on the pump.

Here in Nebraska we have had e-10 since the "70s. Used to be called Gasahol.
Gasoline has changed over the years. I believe the octane is right but it burns
faster. Also it was ok to let a vehicle set for a period of time. Now the gas breaks
down in no time, diesel fuel is even worse.

One of the biggest problems is that it doesn't store well at all. Don't leave it sit in your bike all winter, if you have that where you live. It can eat certain parts that were never designed to run alcohol. It turns back into a sticky brown mess, Corn Sugar. It can make an engine run leaner, do to the higher specific gravity of the fuel, so on a two cycle a re-jet is needed. With a Feed Back closed loop fuel injection, the 02 sensor sees the lean condition and compensates with a longer injector pulse width, lowering fuel economy.
