You are THE MAN! Again,Thanks SO much! The circular groove under the cap, (through which, I assume, the tank "breathes")was filled with what looked like a calcium deposit. I scraped it clean, and seems to be "respirating" normally. PS, I could eat LUNCH off your bike! Pretty baby!
