dies on full throttle was created by pburnhamb
Bike was running great untill i decided to replace my air filters. I got a "deal" on some on fleabay so i tossed the old ones. When i got around to riding her a few days later she was hesitating when i would get to full throttle. I rode it a bit then headed home to figure out what was up. I took the carbs off and inspected them and cleaned them thuroughly. And as i was installing them on the bike i noticed that the airfilters had this ridge on the inside that interfered with some of the ports on the carb intakes. so I left the filters off and took it for a ride. it still wanted to die with any amount of throttle around 1/2 or more.so I took the carburetors back off and went through them again and checked all of the rubber diaphragms that ooperate the slides, blew carb cleaner thru every single passageway again. set all float heights again.everything seems fine but it's still boggs down and then dies on half-full throttle. I check for vacuum leaks at the intake boots and replace the vacuum caps on top of the carburetors with new vinyl ones. I since got some good filters and cleaned/ went thru the carbs again ...still boggs down and wants to die... it will start and idle perfectly/normal. I can rev it up a few times in neutral but on the 4th time or so it boggs down so the problem isnt just under load. I can also see there is plenty of gas flowing through the line. Wires n plugs are all new and getting good spark.. Im stumped.. any ideas?

Did you try adjusting the fast idle screw?

Any time you change the intake or exhaust system from stock you must re-jet. Did you do this, or are you running the factory jets?

yeah got the carbs dialed in with new jets n all when i completed the 810 build a few years ago. have had pod style filters on the whole time. these mikuni bs34 carbs were off a gpz-750 so i had to get em sorted out back them. it ran awesome till those new air filters, now that i have good filters on there though its still running like junk at higher rpms. i cant imagine the jets are causing this problem since it was running fine with pods already. its almost like something was damaged when those junk filters were blocking off some of the intake holes...

Do you have a new brand of pods on than you did before you installed the bad pods? Different brands allow different amounts of air in which may require you to get larger or smaller main jets

Insufficient valve clearances may also produce these symptoms (where cold engine seems to run okay, until it gets warmer, which reduces valve clearances).

Good Fortune! :)

To much air will make the bike run to lean.

not stock airbox,as i stated in the first post it all started when i tossed the old pods and put new ones on...thenew one had a lip on the inside of the rubber neck that blocked off the 3 passages (one being the large long one that opperates te diaphrams for the slides....i shouldnt have kept riding it but ....well i figurd itd work iself out, not realizing the filters had that lip on them... not ure wha to do next....it ran fine before with pods , i got all the jetting sorted out years ago when i built it, and its been great ever since. its hard to believe its a jetting issue because its always had podsand yeah a different band might flow a bit better but the difference shouldnt leave the engine falling flat on its face at 1/2 throttle. plugs have good color. 160 psi across all 4 cyls. fat blue spark at all4. no obsructions in fuel flow. did valeve clearances 14 hours (ride time) before the evil pods, ran reat then , so they should still be within spec. and no i didnt get the same brand as the pods i had in the first place,,,,dont ask me why. i have those purple mikes xs ones now. i really feel like something is wrong with the carbs after having run them with the 3 intake holes covered up.
