 Holy crap, what a difference in the way it runs. I think I'm running lean now though. :( It spits and sputters and occasional backfire. I know you have to re-tune for pods and exhaust but the PO said it was re-jetted for the pods but know i'm thinking otherwise. Now for my question. I was told by someone that the jets are permanent and cant be replaced without machining? Is this correct? I know they sell the dynojet kits for my model so I find that hard to believe. Anyone done an 82 ltd before?

You should be able to replace jets. Here's the carb diagram and part numbers. Ed

The main jets are replaceable and will need to be larger (included in the Dynojet kit). The pilot jet is replaceable but will probably not need to be replaced (not included in the Dynojet kit). The Pilot air corrector jet is permanent and will need to be replaced (included in the Dynojet kit). The main air corrector jet is permanent and will need to be replaced (included in the Dynojet kit). The Pilot air jet is replaceable and will need to be replaced (included in the Dynojet kit). The slide will need to be drilled with the proper diameter bit (included in the Dynojet kit). The needle will need to be adjusted and its taper changed (included in the Dynojet kit).
And the needle is the rub. Dynojet spends most of their time designing and perfecting the needle, because that is where you spend the majority of your time. The factory taper just does not work well with the increased air flow of pods. Period. I have seen literally dozens of people on another forum complain about the performance of their bike when they install pods but not a Dynojet kit. Once the kit installed and properly adjusted, no more complaints.

The Dynojet kit supplies a special drill bit and glue.
For the air corrector jet you glue the air corrector jet in the pilot air port.
For the main air jet you drill out the old one and glue in the new one.

The CV carbs are a strange beast due to the nature of their functionality. I grew up with two strokes, which had simple round slide carbs. These are totally different, but IMHO are much smoother than the VM carbs they replaced.

That I don't know. Maybe someone else who has that style carb can verify. Ed
